Planting pineapples at home and in pots

It is very easy to grow pineapple fruit. One of the few fruits that grows well in a pot, pineapples can be grown anywhere in the world. To get good pineapple fruit, you need a sunny and warm climate where you live.

Planting pineapple at home and in a pot:
The pineapple fruit consists of two parts, the crown and the fruit. A pineapple tree can be grown by planting pineapple under the crown, which has needle-shaped leaves. Everybody consumes the fruit and discards the crown, which has needle-shaped leaves.

Cut the pineapple fruit’s crown off with a knife after removing the crown completely.

Cut four rows of lower leaves after you have removed the crown.

Expose the crown to sunlight in a glass of water (only the stem part without leaves should be in the water), changing the water every day.

In a few days, the crown of the pineapple will be rooted and ready for planting.

Fill the pot with soil that has a height of at least 25 cm.
Water the crown after placing it in the soil 4 cm deep.
Make sure the pineapple pot is placed in a bright, warm, and humid environment.

In three to four months, your pineapple plant will grow, and in two to three years, it will flower and bear fruit.

Does a pineapple plant require a lot of space?
There is no need for a lot of space for the roots, but the plant itself may grow to a large size. In order for pineapple leaves to grow, they need a lot of space.

Can you tell me how much water the pineapple plant needs?
Watering this plant is not very important. Don’t worry if you live in a dry area. Even with a small amount of water, pineapples remain healthy. In hot weather, water can evaporate from the soil, so be careful not to allow the soil to dry out too much. Watering the plant too much will not do anything because the excess water will go down from the middle of the plant.

You can tell how well you have done your work by the color of the pineapple leaves. Red or purple leaves indicate that the pineapple is hungry and thirsty, so you should feed it. Since pineapple plants are difficult to destroy, they are considered resistant fruits, but you must be careful in the first few months to prevent them from turning red or purple. Water your plant once a week in hot weather and once every two weeks in cold weather.

Here are some tips for growing pineapple at home:

Soil that is suitable:
It is very important that the soil used for the pineapple plant has good drainage, since it belongs to the bromeliad family and does not have a large root system like them. Most gardeners use slightly acidic soil for pineapples. Pineapples should be planted in soil with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5, not higher than 7.

For pineapple plants, a mixture of garden soil, cocopeat, and leaf soil with good drainage is recommended.

Light that is suitable:
It grows well in full sunlight, even in the hottest climates, but prefers treetop light. For at least three to four hours, place the pineapple plant in direct and mild sunlight.

Temperature of pineapples:
Temperatures between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit are ideal for pineapple growth. Tropical and subtropical climates are ideal for pineapple plants.

Winter care for pineapple:
If you live in an area with very cold winter weather, move pineapples inside or plants that are grown outside during the winter season to keep them from freezing. Plastic sheets should be used to cover the surface.

Fertilizer:
When pineapple plants are at their best in spring and summer, fertilizer supplements are added to the soil. You can apply liquid or solid fertilizers to the soil once a month, but we recommend mixing fertilizer with NPK humic acid. Mix half a teaspoon of the mixture with 2 to 3 liters of water and wait an hour for the fertilizer to dissolve in the water container, then water your plant as needed.

In autumn and winter, plants are inactive, so do not fertilize them.

flower pot:
Growing pineapples in pots is not a problem. Plant the pineapple plant in a pot that is at least 25 cm high and has several holes in the bottom. To drain excess water from the pot when watering, fill the bottom of the pot with pebbles or light industrial pumice. Growing pineapples in ceramic pots is the best option.

Is there a specific time when pineapples bear fruit?
Fruiting depends on the climate, the type of care, and the conditions of the pineapple, but usually it takes 24 months or two years. In some circumstances and parts of the world, this number may reach 18 months. After the pineapple plant flowers, it takes another 6 months for the fruits to mature.

If the fruit turns yellow, it is ready to harvest, otherwise it will be sunburned and should be removed immediately. Plants that are cut too early should be put back in the soil until they have fully ripened and turned yellow. In general, the more mature the plant, the faster it bears fruit. Every year, you can grow hundreds of pineapples if you have enough space.

In terms of pests, pineapple is most commonly affected by:

In order to get rid of destructive aphids, you must control the ants that spread aphids.
Pineapples are also damaged by ticks, thrips, cockroaches, and nematodes. It is effective and reliable to remove these pests with soap and water.

Points to consider:

Water is not a major concern for pineapple plants.
Because of its stiff leaves, it does not lose water through evaporation and can last even without much water.
Pineapples receive most of their water and nutrients from their leaves.
Muddy or very wet soil does not suit pineapples. Its leaves will burn if the fertilizer is concentrated.
