You can grow organic tomatoes at home and enjoy their unique taste; you do not need a garden to do this, but you can plant it in a pot, and you only need the right sun and heat. By planting it, you can use the healthy tomatoes that you have planted whenever you want. If you’re going to get acquainted with growing tomatoes and know when is the best time to develop this vegetable, join us.

Teaching the steps and methods of growing tomatoes at home:

For your convenience, we categorize the steps so that you can proceed according to the same steps, which include the following:

Start with the seeds

Tomatoes can be grown from packaged dried seeds, fresh seeds isolated from chopped tomatoes, or ready-made seedlings. You can get the seeds from the garden.

Or buy a store. If you want to collect the seeds of the plant, you need at least one tomato. Make sure it is inherited or pollinated. If you pick tomatoes from a chemically controlled seed transplant, the results may not be dramatic. Planting tomato seedlings is the easiest way to grow them.

A tomato plant can be classified as follows:

  • Inherited or combined:

Inheritance is a tomato that produces genetically for several generations without reproduction. They are pure tomatoes and are a combination of two types.

  • Known and anonymous tomatoes:

This method describes the period of fruit production by the plant. Plants produce fruit for a few weeks, but plants have this unknown substance during the growing season unless the weather is freezing.

Tomatoes are divided into four categories in terms of shape:

  • Tomatoes are divided into four categories in terms of shape: spherical, grilled, pasty, and cherry.
  • Cherry tomatoes are tiny and are used to make salads.
  • Grilled tomatoes are giant tomatoes, and spherical tomatoes are the best form of this vegetable.
  • Dough tomatoes are also used to make sauces.

Put the tomatoes in a plastic container.

To plant tomatoes, you need a plastic container with a wide lid for a few days. To grow, first, chop the tomatoes in half and pour them into a bowl.

Label the dish

If you use several different types of tomatoes for planting, label them on the container to prevent any mistakes. Put the lid on the container but do not close it until oxygen reaches it.

Put the tomatoes in the right place.

Place the container where you put the tomatoes in a suitable place away from direct sunlight, such as storage, etc., because the fermentation process can have an unpleasant odor.

Stir the dish every day

After a few days, a layer of fungus appears on the seeds. This process can eliminate many seed-related diseases, which can affect the subsequent production of plants. Be sure to pick the seeds immediately after the fungus has formed so that the seeds do not germinate in the container.

Peel a squash, grate it and squeeze the juice.

Pour all the dish contents into the strainer and be careful not to throw away the seeds. After collecting all the seeds in the strainer, wash them thoroughly with water.

Dry the seeds

After washing the seeds, spread them on a non-stick surface such as a glass container or ceramic tile, sheet, chipboard because it is tough to remove dry grains from paper or fabric. Let the seeds dry entirely for a few days, wrap them in a plastic bag, and label the seeds in the container.

Keep the seeds in a cool, dark place.

Place the seeds that you have dried and packaged in an air-conditioned container in the refrigerator to simulate winter weather. Please do not put the seeds in the freezer, as it will damage them.

Cultivation of tomatoes using seed sowing method:

If you want to grow tomatoes using the seed planting method, you must:

Sow tomato seeds in early spring

It is best to plant tomato seeds in pots in early spring when the weather is still cold and let them grow indoors, as cold temperatures in early spring will kill the young seedlings. To improve production chances, start indoor planting.

Choose the right pot.

Buy plastic pots or similar small pots for sowing seeds. You can find these pots in your room or a garden supply store.

Fill the container with suitable soil.

Before filling the soil, disinfect the containers for planting and then fill them with soil suitable for seed growth (a mixture of coco peat and perlite). Place 2 or 3 seeds in each 1/4 inch pot, about 4.10 cm deep. Cover the seed with 1 cm of soil, water it, and place it in a bright place.

Check the pot every day

You can put the seeds in a plastic bag to keep the soil moist. Check the planting site daily to make sure the potting soil is moist. After 5-10 days, your seeds will germinate. When the plants emerge from the soil, they increase, and after germination, move them to a place where sunlight shines on the buds.

Planting tomatoes at home by transferring plants

Another method that we will discuss in this section in the form of home tomato training is transferring plants, which we have discussed below.

Wait until the plant is ready to transfer

After the plant germinates in the pot, wait until at least two rows of leaves are added to your bud, and the seedling root is ready enough to transfer. Note that the plant should grow 15 cm to avoid the risk of frostbite outdoors.

How to grow tomatoes at home?

Gradually place the plant in the open air.

About a week before the plant is moved outside, you should gradually adjust it to the outside temperature. Gradually expose the plants to sunlight and a relatively shady area, starting with an hour or less a day and gradually increasing the hours the plants spend outdoors.

Prepare seedling transfer space.

If you want to plant the seedlings in a larger pot or garden, you need to prepare the soil. Use well-drained soil with sufficient organic matter. The use of moss in the soil causes drainage, and to do this, remove more than half of the soil and mix the soil with an equal proportion of immature moss and pour it on the planting site.

Test the soil compaction level

After adjusting the soil, test the pH level. If the pH level is below 6, add dolomite lime to the soil to increase the pH level, and if the soil pH is higher than 7, mix the sulfur grains to lower the pH level, and the tomatoes grow in soils with pressures of 6 and 7.

Make a hole in the soil.

Dig a hole in the soil; it should be deep enough and put a tablespoon of organic matter such as compost in the hole as this will make the plant grow more.

Plant the seedlings

To transfer tomato buds to the leading planting site, plant them lightly in the soil around the roots. During the transition process, try not to damage the roots. For planting in the garden, the distance between each seedling should be 40-60 cm.

Place the wood next to the plants.

This helps the plants be vigorous as they grow, make the fruit lighter than the tree, and be careful not to damage the roots.

Tips for better tomato growth:

After transferring the buds to the pot or the central garden, pay attention to the following points:

Best planting time

The best time to plant tomatoes is usually spring, but if you plant tomatoes in pots and at home, provide the conditions for growing tomatoes at a temperature of 20 degrees.

Irrigation systems

Tomatoes spoil with a lot of watering; water the tomatoes only when the potting soil dries. Irrigation of the plant base prevents the mold from spreading to the leaves.

Lighting

Tomatoes need at least 6-10 hours of sunlight during the day or to grow. Therefore, your plant should be placed in a place that is exposed to direct sunlight.

Fertilization

Give liquid fertilizers such as phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen to the body for a week after germination and little growth, but do not fertilize after flowering.

proper temperature

The best temperature for growing tomatoes is between 20-25 degrees during the day and between 17-19 degrees at night.

Tomato pruning

To boost the plant’s energy for stem growth and it is best to prune its lower leaves. The branches grow between the lateral stem and the main stem, separating these branches from the tomato plant.

Help pollinate

To make the plant more fertile in the garden and bees, butterflies and winds pollinate in nature. Indoors, you can do this by shaking the plant’s stem and tapping it gently for better pollination and harvesting.

Tomato harvest

Tomato fruiting takes between 60-80 days. Your tomato plant can bear fruit in all seasons, and to pick the fruits, gently twist them and avoid pulling.
